Family Devotional Guide – May 9

I have a question for you today. Can you see the wind?

Sometime today or this week or even right now, go outside. While outside, look and see if you can see the wind. Can you see it? Discuss with whoever you are with today whether or not we can see the wind. Can we see the wind, or do we see the results of the wind?

Now, take a moment right now and read John 3:5-8.

This text teaches us that the work of the Holy Spirit is similar to how the wind works. Just as the wind is always present, invisible, and very powerful, so is the Holy Spirit these things. He is everywhere, always working, and completely powerful. As powerful as the wind can be, think of tornados or hurricanes; the Holy Spirit is even more powerful. As we learned in this week’s sermon, the Holy Spirit was involved in creating all things, making unbelievers believers on the day of their conversion, and leading and guiding believers throughout their lives.

The Holy Spirit truly is powerful!

Sadly, as powerful and fantastic as the Holy Spirit is, we often ignore or are unaware of His work. For the next several weeks, we will talk about the Holy Spirit and His work. I believe it will be an excellent reminder for us and will create some great conversations with our families.

As a family, couple, or as friends, discuss the questions below.

Family Discussion Questions:

  1. Share what you know about the Holy Spirit.
  2. What Bible passages come to mind when you think of the Holy Spirit?
  3. Do you think we (your family) talk or think enough about the Holy Spirit and His work in our lives? Why or why not?
  4. How might we live differently if we were more aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives?
