Family Devotional Guide – January 31
Travis Walker   -

About ten years ago, my grandmother passed away; she was a godly woman who loved Jesus. She wasn’t at all rich, but she was very generous. When she passed away, she wanted some things of hers to go to her grandchildren. I was the recipient of her old car. I got her car because, before she passed away, she knew that I needed a 2nd car for my family, so when she passed, she allowed me to be the heir of her vehicle.

This car wasn’t anything incredible, but it was free, and it met my needs perfectly. I drove my grandma’s car for years, and it was a tremendous blessing to me. My loving grandma, who didn’t have much, gave me what she had because she loved me!

As incredible as that gift was, our text this week tells us of a much more amazing inheritance from someone a whole lot more wealthy. Ephesians 1:11-12 teach us that God, our Heavenly Father, loves his children, us, so much that He has given us what He has.

For a moment, let that this truth sink in!  Those who believe in Christ as their Lord and Savior are now God’s children, and because God is so loving, he pours out His incredible riches upon His children. This text tells us that our inheritance is all the blessings and benefits of becoming His sons and daughters.

Below are a few discussion questions I would love for you and your family to discuss sometime this week.

  1. How rich is God? What does He own?
  2. How much does God love His children?
  3. What are some of the current benefits we have as his children?
  4. What are some of the eternal benefits we will have when we meet in heaven?
  5. As grateful children, how should we then live?
