The Clear Will of God
God doesn’t play hide or seek with his children. He’s not obscuring his plan; he doesn’t communicate in cryptic fashion. No, God reveals his will plainly. He has made it known.
In fact, God is so committed to clarity regarding his will that he inspired Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, to identify three things in exactly that way—as God’s will. Notice this one sentence (3 short verses): “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
If you’ve ever wondered, “What’s God’s will for me?”, these verses give us at least three items that should answer that question: Rejoicing, prayer, and thankfulness. There’s no ambiguity whatsoever; it’s ultra-plain and Windex-clear.
Specifically, consider some more insight about these three things that are God’s will:
- Rejoicing – gladness and delight
- Prayer – approaching God with praise, intercessions, requests.
- Thankfulness – expressions of gratefulness and appreciation
When there’s this kind of clarity, our obedience should be quick. Without hesitation. After all, no analysis is needed. God’s expectations are front and center. He has shown us lucidly what he “wills” for his children. Thus, we should respond promptly.
Today, live in the very center of God’s will by exulting in God, praying to God, and thanking God. Experience the joy of proving what is the will of God (Romans 12:2) by engaging in these actions. For sure, there’s nothing vague or murky about this. It’s the clear will of God.
