Sharing the Weight (and Wait) of God’s Presence | Resources

Intro

As Israel arrives at Sinai, the narrative pauses to show that God’s saving presence is now forming a structured, ordered people.

Through Jethro, God provides wisdom for sustainable leadership that will help Israel live as residents in God’s presence, not just those rescued by God’s presence. This chapter reminds Israel that waiting on God’s direction does not mean remaining passive, but faithfully ordering life together around His presence.

Quote

“God does not intend for His people to bear His work alone, but together under His grace.” –John Calvin

Gospel Connection

Moses needed others to help carry the burden, pointing to our deeper need for a perfect mediator. Jesus is the greater Moses who carries our ultimate burden—our sin—and invites us into His rest. Through the gospel, we are not only forgiven individually but brought into a community where we help carry one another’s burdens. God’s presence was never meant to be experienced in isolation, but through His redeemed people living together under His grace.

Response

Pray: Lord, help me trust You enough to share my burdens with others, and teach me to walk in humility and dependence on Your people.

Do: Ask one person this week for help or accountability in an area you’ve been carrying alone.
