Intro

In the wilderness, Israel repeatedly questions whether God will provide for them.

In response, God graciously supplies manna from heaven and water from the rock. Even in the midst of their complaints, the Lord remains faithful to sustain His people. Through these experiences, God teaches Israel daily dependence on Him.

Quote

“God’s provision is often given daily so that our trust in Him will also be daily.” – D.A. Carson

Discussion/Reflection Questions

1. Why do you think God chose to provide manna daily instead of giving Israel a large supply all at once?

2. What are some areas of life where people struggle to trust God for daily provision?

3. How does Jesus being the “bread of life” deepen the meaning of the manna story?

4. What is the difference between healthy dependence on God and trying to control everything ourselves?

Gospel Connection

The manna in the wilderness points forward to Christ. Jesus later declares, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35). Just as manna sustained Israel physically, Christ sustains believers spiritually. Our ultimate provision is not food or water but the life that Jesus gives.

Response

Pray: Ask God to help you trust Him for daily needs instead of worrying about the future.

Do: Practice daily dependence by intentionally thanking God each day for one provision you often take for granted.
