2 Timothy 2:3–13 | Resources
Intro
In 2 Timothy 2:3–13, Paul calls Timothy to endure hardship like a good soldier of Christ, staying focused and free from distractions. He uses images of a soldier, athlete, and farmer to emphasize the discipline, perseverance, and hard work required in gospel ministry. Paul reminds Timothy that his suffering is for the sake of others, so that they may obtain salvation in Christ. He then shares a trustworthy saying that highlights the hope and endurance of believers: if we die with Christ, we will also live with Him; if we endure, we will reign with Him. Even if we are faithless, God remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. This passage encourages unwavering commitment to Christ, grounded in the promise of eternal reward and God’s unchanging faithfulness.
Pray: Father, just as Jesus prayed, sanctify me by the truth—your Word is truth. Glorify yourself in me.
Passage: 2 Timothy 2:3–13
“Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the commanding officer. Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. The hardworking farmer ought to be the first to get a share of the crops. Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead and descended from David, according to my gospel, for which I suffer to the point of being bound like a criminal. But the word of God is not bound. This is why I endure all things for the elect: so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. This saying is trustworthy:
For if we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.”
Prayer
“Lord, help me to endure faithfully in every season like a good soldier, a disciplined athlete, and a hardworking farmer. Strengthen me when ministry feels hard or when I feel alone. Remind me that my suffering is not wasted, and that You are always faithful, even when I am weak. Help me live with eternity in view and trust in Your promises no matter what.”
Memory Verse

Gospel Connection
2 Timothy 2:3–13 reminds us that following Jesus involves endurance, sacrifice, and faithfulness, just as Christ endured suffering for our salvation. Paul encourages us to remain focused, disciplined, and hardworking in our mission to make Christ known. At the heart of it all is the risen Jesus, our hope and example, who died and rose again so we could live and reign with Him. Even when we are weak or unfaithful, the gospel assures us that God remains faithful to His promises. This passage calls us to trust in the finished work of Christ and live out that hope with perseverance.
