Memory Verse

“He emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death — even to death on a cross.” Philippians 2:7–8 (CSB)

Devotional

Have you ever been separated from someone you care deeply for? Has your heart ever broken over the reality of the distance that separates you from the people you love? If you have, you will relate to the sentiment expressed in the letter we will look at for the next several months.

When you read the book of Philippians, you can’t help but notice that Paul’s letter to the church in Philippi is intensely personal and relational. This letter is more than a charge to a familiar church; instead, it is an intimate letter to friends he is passionate about. Paul loves these people, and they deeply love him. Each chapter is dripping with closeness and compassion. The book of Philippians is a love letter!

This love letter isn’t significant because of Paul’s intent in writing it; it’s important because of God’s intent for it. Allow the love you see in Paul’s heart for these people to reveal God’s deep love for you! My hope and prayer for us as we study this excellent book together would be that we walk away not just amazed by Paul’s love and compassion for a church in the ancient city of Philippi, but that we see a greater depth of God’s incredible love for us, His children.

Let’s, together, be blown away that the Creator of heaven and earth doesn’t just know about us but cares deeply for us, and loves us more than we can humanly comprehend!
